I wanted to make the packing list actiivty as fun as possible so i turned it in to a game
I made a numbered list with things that dont' belong on it.
The the boys searched the list, and when the found one , they raised their hands and told us the number, what is was and why it was not supposed to be on the list... Then the whole Den Crossed it it off the list with a pencil.
I made sure each boy got to do a couple of them, even hinting about what number to look at if they were slower finding items on the list than other boys...
Ie, If one boys hasn't got one yet. "Okay It's Bobs turn to get one, lets wait for him, Bob.. wait a bit then add "Bob, why don't you check out # 47...")
Part of the key for this activity is you the leader standing where you can see ALL the scouts, because as boys do, this becomes a bit of organized Chaos. My son was on the opposite side from me and i accidentally skipped his turn, making him sad.
In case you want to rip of the game here is the list..

This site is amazing! Are you planning on doing a Webelos page?
ReplyDeleteIts worked pretty well for me so far, last summer there was NOTHING on the web to help out, so instead of doing my notes on a word document, I put it up on the blog... So in short yes, as soon as my boys cross over I'll start putting up Webelos stuff too. Nothing fancy, just like this, each belt loop and what resources I found that are helpful, & what I plan.
